MT (?Motor Transport) Vehicle Sheds and Yard. This complex is shown on the earliest known Air Ministry site plan (June 1940), but was badly damaged during air raids of April-May 1941. It originally consisted of two 10-bay vehicle sheds that faced each other and separated by a 75 feet wide tarmac vehicle manoeuvring area. The southern shed has an attached MT office and rest room. Post war, the northern shed was used as the airport fire station, but the fire department now have a modern purpose-built building.
Construction is of temporary brick with timber or steel roof trusses supporting corrugated asbestos sheeting. Bay width 13 feet, length 28 feet (clear), bay height (clear) 13 feet 6 inches
One bay is now missing from the southern shed, and several openings have been blocked up. In good condtion. Other details: Map 6, Plate 14, Site 219.
