The Short Range Firing Grid was located on a terrace about 40 metres long and 15 metres wide, below the buildings and gun emplacements on the south side of Marine Drive. It consisted of smaller calibre guns located on eight or nine bases. Support buildings at the rear of the terrace included the Barrel Store and Close Range Workshop. The eastern end has been landscaped and the distinct drop in level down to the access road shown in the aerial photograph is not so clear. Other details: Figure 2; map; site inventory no.030.
