Summary
An octagonal socket stone with a plinth and with a moulding around the top, has been hollowed out to form a trough. Said to have been brought from Ladwell Orchard, but Crossing suggests that it may well have supported Gulwell Cross. It is situated in Oliver's Court, between numbers 12 and 14 St. Lawrence Lane. In shape it is octagonal, one side being built into a wall.

Full description
Amery, P. F. S., 1894, Gulwell, 82 (Article in Serial). SDV300740.
Spring rises by the roadside, a short distance from the western end of Ashburton and on the Glebe land over this spring once stood a granite cross, long since removed, but portions of it can still be seen at Gulwell Farm. The field 'Stone Park' probably took its name from the stone cross.

(17/07/1951) Masson Phillips' description is correct. The south side of the cross base is made from moorland granite and built into a wall. It appears to have been made in four equal sections. It has a diameter of 1.1 metres and stands 0.25 metres high
An octagonal socket stone with a plinth stands in a courtyard in St Lawrence Lane (Masson Phillips, 1937) at SX 75656982. It has been hollowed out to form a trough. It may be part of Gulwell Cross (SX 76 NE 14) or Ladwell Cross (SX 76 NE 8).
