Typical 18th or early 19th century Devon cottage as opposed to a larger farmhouse. Additions have been made, in the form of a dairy on the back at the east end and a shippon on the west gable. The dairy encloses what appears to be a bee bole, which would have been external when the cottage was constructed. The stack in the second room is a later addition, since it blocks a window in the gable end. There is also a lean-to animal house along the whole of the rear elevation which has a sheeted roof, but which appears to have originally been somewhat smaller, when it may have had a more traditional roof finish. The cottage itself originally had a thatched roof, its walls are largely of cob with stone rubble cladding to the front elevation. The original front door appears to have been at the east end of the south front, where there are the remains of a porch. The surviving windows are two late 19th century casements. The interior detail is very plain and is not readily dateable, but would be consistent with an 18th or early 19th century date. The roof trusses look somewhat earlier and appear to be smoke blackened, but may have been re-used. Now in a derilict state. Other details: Copies of faxes attached.
