Full description

Chris Blandford Associates, 1997, Barnstaple Western Bypass and Urban Relief Road Stage 4. Environmental Assessment Phase A, 21 (Report - Assessment). SDV347381.

The area to the north of the saltmarshes as far as, and beyond, the mid-19th century Barnstaple to Ilfracombe road was until the late 1960s and early 1970s in agricultural use. Air photographic cover shows that there were extensive remains of ridge and furrow over much of the area, presumably relating to the medieval settlement at Pottington.
