Name:Cairn on Haytor Down, Ilsington

Summary

Remains of a sited near the Three Parishes Stone to the north-east of Smallacombe Rocks on Haytor Down. The cairn consist of a turf covered, low spread of small stones with a diameter of 8 metres by 0.2 metres high. The centre of the cairn shows signs of disturbance. The cairn was respected when the later east to west parallel reave was constructed, missing it by only a few metres, and the line of which was later to be adopted as the parish boundary.

(03/05/1960) At SX 7633 7831 are the remains of a cairn. It is 0.4 m. high and has heather and grass covered perimeter enclosing a core of stones.
A 25" survey has been made.

(05/10/1975) Stony patch, presumed cairn robbed for stone for boundary bank. Diameter 3.5 metres, height 0.1 metre.

(30/04/1999) Centred SX 7634 7831. A much flattened and despoiled cairn, sited 13 metres south-west of the Ilsington, Manaton, Bovey Tracey parish boundary stone. The cairn consist of a turf covered, low spread of small stones with a diameter of 8 metres by 0.2 metres high. The centre of the cairn shows signs of disturbance. The cairn was respected when the later east to west parallel reave was constructed, missing it by only a few metres, and the line of which was later to be adopted as the parish boundary.
