Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

L-shaped range of buildings shown on 1880s-1890s 25 inch Ordnance Survey map at Hartland Mill.

Collings, A. G. + Manning, P. T. + Valentin, J., 2007, The North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Phase 1. Archaeological Survey. Summary Report, Survey No. 2045 (Report - Assessment). SDV339712.

The 1842 Tithe Map and Apportionment indicate that the poorhouses were an L-shaped structure (Plot 797). The buildings are also shown on the 1886 25 inch Ordnance Survey map and possibly on modern mapping.

Google, 2012, Google Streetview (Website). SDV348799.

Google Streetview shows a rather attractive L-shaped group of terraced houses of stone under a slate roof with projecting porches and red-painted woodwork. The houses are two storey plus an attic floor with dormer windows in the roof.

Ordnance Survey, 2012, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV348725.

Buildings in this location are shown on the Ordnance Survey MasterMap at Hartland Mill. Now called Mill Hill.

Rance, H., 2012, Untitled Source (Personal Comment). SDV349011.

Although the Hartland Mill is described as a 'poorhouses', there is no evidence on the First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map to suggest that this is the case.
