Full description

Vis=18/9/1969 (os) the square medieval socket stone has broached corners to give an octagonal top.1m square by 0.4m deep. Still there (os).

On 25/05/1879, the base of an ancient cross said to date from the 5th century was discovered in the Vicarage gardens,. It was said to be seen in the shrubbery near the old vicarage in 1910. The socket stone lies buried to ground level, in the undergrowth in the northern side of the driveway leading to The Old Vicarage (on land owned by Oyster Cottage). The Old Vicarage is south of the church. The ancient socket stone appears to be octagonal in shape with an oblong socket hole.
It is said that a fragment of cross shaft has been discovered (no further detail given).
Socket stone 0.91 metres by ?metres high. Socket hole 25.4 centimetres by 22.9 centimetres by 17.8 centimetres deep.
