Full description

EVANS, 1947-1949, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV295245.

Parish church at ipplepen was dedicated on 3/5/1318. Built on the site of saxon and norman churches. Church was granted to the augustinian abbey of fougere at rennes, brittany in the 13th century. A cell of three or four canons formed who lived under a prior. They were ejected in 1337 when war broke out with france (evans, 1960). Body of church medieval, large west tower. Perpendicular window tracery, 6-bay aisles. Norman tympanum in s aisle.(pevsner) the living was taken over by the crown in 1350 and passed to the collegiate church of ottery st. Mary in 1437 (evans, 1947-1949).

Gabled slate roof to nave and chancel, flat lead roofs to aisles. Nave, north and south aisles with chapels, west tower and south 2 storeyed porch, mainly perpendicular.
