Site visit 6th December 1978. A chapel is recorded in 1400 at Firebeacon. No beacon or chapel remains could be found in the area. The name Firebeacon occurs on the Tithe Map but there is no field name which could refer to a chapel.

Chapel site. A Royal Charter of 1189 granted chapels at Harton, Cheristow, Welcombe and all the other chapels built in the parish to Hartland Abbey. A chapel at Firebeacon is listed as being licensed by Bishop Stafford in 1400 and Pearce suggests that this was one of the original 1189 grant chapels.
