This area was called The Beacon Moor on the 1842 Tithe Apportionment. It is located to the east of Lower Firebeacon and East Firebeacon Farms, just off the highest part of the hill. The name Firebeacon is first recorded in 1400. The precise location of the beacon is unknown.

Firebeacon is recorded as Fyrbykene in 1400 and as Ester Fyerbycken and Sowth Fyerbyckon in 1566. The name is self-explanatory; the site is on a prominent hill.

The name 'Fyrbekene' is recorded in in connection with the Chapel of St Mary belonging to Hartland Abbey. Located in the east of the parish.

The name 'Fyrbyken' is recorded in 1400 and 'Ester Fyerbycken' and 'South Fyerbyckon' in 1566. The name is also recorded on the 1842 Tithe Map.
Site visit 6th December 1978. No beacon mound could be found in the area.

Moor called 'The Beacon Moor' on 1842 Tithe Apportionment and circa 1842 Tithe Map (Plot Number 3800), divided by unfenced road until fenced after 1905. There are documentary references 'fyrbyken' in 1400, and 'ester fyerbycken, south fyerbycken' in 1566. No physical evidence for a beacon mound has been found.
