Full description

Department for Culture, Media and Sport, 2000, Tiverton, 189 (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV341848.

Statue. 1912 by Harry Hems of Exeter. White marble statue on a granite pedestal. The king is shown standing, left foot slightly forward. He wears military uniform with a royal robe over his shoulders; his left-hand rests on a sword strapped round his waist and against his right arm he carries a sceptre. At the foot of the statue, on the front edge, is the signature HARRY HEMS. Square, tapered pedestal with scrolled diagonal buttresses, the whole standing on a low square plinth. On the front of the pedestal is carved EDWARD THE PEACEMAKER 1841-1910, and below it PRESENTED BY THOMAS FORD ESQ JP TO HIS NATIVE TOWN.
