Nos 1 to 15 (odd), nos 19 to 25 (odd) and nos 29 to 37 (odd), Castle Street. Mainly early to mid 19th century, two storey, some with attics, generally sash windows, some with glazing bars. Red brick, some stuccoed and painted. Slate roofs. Nos 23 and 25, Doric wood doorcases with pilasters.

Pair of houses. Circa 1820s. Flemish bond brick; natural slate roof, gabled at ends; stacks with brick shafts and old pots (some crested), one shaft roughcast. Probably mirror plan. No. 23 has a wide entrance passage to the right containing the stair (and stair to basement) and two rooms to the left, one behind the other, heated from end stacks. Exterior: two storeys. Asymmetrical three-window front with segmental-headed arches to the windows with rubbed brick arches on the ground floor. Pilastered wood doorcases with projecting cornices, fielded panelled reveals and recessed front doors. No.23 has a six-panel front door with fielded panels, the upper panels glazed, No.25 has a small-pane glazed door. Windows are two-pane sashes, windows to No.23 with horns; barred basement windows. Interior: No.23 retains early 19th century joinery including two-panel cupboards and four-panel doors. Stick baluster stair with turned newels. History: deed in the possession of the owner of No.25 shows it being let out in the 1820s.
