Full description

Chope, R. P., 1926 - 1927, Early Bridges, 95 (Article in Serial). SDV2294.

Bequest made by Bishop Stafford in 1418 for the rebuilding of the bridge on condition that the piers were built of stone.

Chudleigh Bridge on site of medieval bridge. Present modern structure on site of earlier bridges. Listed Grade III. Other details: Visited.

Chudleigh Bridge. Local bridge over the River Teign. Early C19. Granite ashlar with rusticated granite piers. Single-span bridge with parapets and a wide segmental arch springing from rusticated piers, pilasters at either end have sunk panels and are crowned with pyramidal caps. A deep hollow-chamfered string course is carried round as a cornice to the pilasters. A handsome road bridge with a high quality finish to the masonry.
