Mainbow (maynbogh or mayneburgh), near forches cross. Farm prior to reign of king john (harris).

Site visit 24th June 1983. As recorded by Mitchell. The accompanying worksheet has a tracing from the 1840 Tithe Map showing plot 339 recorded as Dwelling etc.

Mainbow marked, comprising ranges of buildings around three sides of a yard including a horse engine house with the farmhouse and garden on the east side.
Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.
Comparison between the first and second edition Ordnance Survey maps show the farm buildings to have been demolished by 1904-6 and a new range of buildings constructed to the north-west.

Vis=27/6/1979 (mitchell) dates from early 13th century. Present buildings appear to be 19th or 20th century. No obvious remains of earlier buildings. Adjacent field used for poultry farm buildings. Descent given. At one time belonged to tor abbey.(lysons). Documented in 1200, 1244 and 1301 (mawer et al).
