Full description

NMR SS5838;SF1507/382 IN SMR, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV85151.

A soil mark at plaistow barton shows a small rectangular enclosure beyond hill slope enclosure. Shows as a bank with slight traces of ditch on w side. Possible entrance to the n (balkwill/silvester from ap)vis=8/10/1980 (silvester) west and east sides survive: north cannot be made out with certainty, south removed by track. West side is good, and has a ditch. Rectangular banked and ditched site, could be romano-british, same field as hillslope enclosure, (ss53ne/13). Vis=not visible on nmr ap (1979) (nmr ss5838;sf1507/382 in smr).

Previously recorded as a small rectangular soil mark, the enclosure is visible on LiDAR images as a near perfectly square earthwork with rounded corners, with the north side now clearly visible.
