Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The Tithe Map shows the farmhouse on the north side of the yard.

Braddick, L. E., 1962, Whitestone and Oldridge, 351 (Article in Serial). SDV294377.

The former farmhouse is mentioned in the Tithe Return for 1838.

Pamment, J., 1986, Parish Survey of Whitestone and Oldridge, 154, 155, 193 (Report - Survey). SDV295504.

The farm was in existence by 1840 from the Tithe Map of that date. The farmhouse has a late post-medieval type of architecture. This building is a conversion into cob of a style of architecture which is demonstrably more suited to brick. It may represent an example of one of the last full-cob buildings to be constructed in this part of Devon. The high cob walls are far too exposed and a slate roof has been subsituted for thatch. The farmhouse and barn fell into disuse when the smallholding was swallowed up by a larger farm.

Ordnance Survey, 2025, Mastermap 2025 (Cartographic). SDV366286.
