Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The barn is shown on the 1880s-1890s map forming the eastern end of a long, irregular shaped yard. A long, angled range of buildings extending west from the barn forms the north side, with a short range of buildings on the west side and the farmhouse with outbuildings on the south side and a garden to the south. Orchards are shown around the farmstead, a small building on the entrance way and a well to the north-east of the barn.

Site visit 4th May 1976. A ruined barn and granite gateposts stand near Pitt Farm. Two walls remain consisting of 3.0m of wall, 1.30m of stone and mortar surmounted by 1.70m of cob. There is fallen stone all around the building. It now has a roof of corrugated iron supported on wooden beams and is used for storing hay. Diagram on worksheet.
