Summary: | During excavations at the chalk quarry, a single layer of flint nodules, 4.6m above the base of the chalk was revealed. This is suggested to be the source of many flint artefacts found during field walking by Mrs N. Pearce, and at Hembury. Knappers describe the Furley/Membury flint nodules as exceptional, producing high-quality flake and blade tool-blanks. |
