Title: | Tree-ring analysis of oak timbers from St Brannock Church, Braunton |
---|
Originator: | Tyers, I. |
---|
Date: | 2004 |
---|
Summary: | Oak timber samples were taken from the nave roof & from dismantled pews at St Brannock's Church for tree-ring analysis. The roof timbers dated construction to the end of the 14C or the beginning of 15C. The pew planks were dated to the end of 15C or early 16C & some were found to be inscribed with carpenters numbers. Damaged tenons & peg holes suggested previous dismantling on at least one occasion & they exhibited distortions indicative of construction while still green. Timber for the roof & the pews appears to have come from different sources. |
