"Parish church, rebuilt in C18 and C19. Brick with stone dressings throughout. West tower belongs to the rebuilding of 1736-9, 3 stages, with paired round headed lights to bell chamber, and oculi. The west door is a C19 gothic insertion, with shafts and decorated corbels to hood mould. The 3 bay nave was rebuilt c1877 to be in keeping with the chancel, and has heavy stone geometric traceried windows of 2 lights with foiled circles above. The chaucel was built mid C19 in gothic style and has a projecting vestry to the south, and to the north a priests door with ornate shafts and hood mould. Several stained glass windows."

Project Gargoyle Overview (2016):
Photographed by Steve Harris various dates April 2014 to February 2015
Although there has been a church here since at least 1221, none of the original structure has survived. The chancel was rebuilt, with a vestry, in 1856 and the nave restored or, more probably, rebuilt in 1876–7. Further restorations took place in 1888.
The chancel has a surprising number of heads as there are 21 hood stops on the exterior and 29 label stops inside. These all seem to be from 1856 when the contractors were the Leicester-based company of Broadbent and Hawley. Whether these carvings are the work of Benjamin Broadbent (1813–1862) himself, or of a master mason working for him is unknown. In almost all respects they are ‘typical’ of 1850s–70s carvings and, as such, form an interesting collection of Gothic Revival sculpture (even if, individually, they are not especially interesting).
