Full description

TRADITIONALLY THE SITE OF KING ATHELSTANS PALACE.THE MANOR WAS GIVEN BY THE KING TO THE SEE OF YORK IN 937AD AFTER THE BATTLE OF BRUNNANBURGH. THE ARCHBISHOPS HOUSE HERE WAS USED AS A HUNTING LODGE.THERE ARE STILL VARIOUS EARTHWORKS OF BUILDINGS VISIBLE NATURE UNKNOWN.(1)(2)
