Summary : A Roman altar was found in 1821 in digging foundations adjoining the permanent library in St John Street. It is now in Hereford Museum.
More information : (SO 51103990) Roman Altar found AD 1821 (NAT). (1)

Altar, 17 x 40 ins, with plain sides and with inscription almost
obliterated. Found in 1821 in digging foundations for the SubscriptionBilliard Room adjoining the Permanent Library in St John Street.,
Hereford. Presented to the Library and later lost to sight;
rediscovered in, or shortly before, 1877. Now in the Hereford City
Mus. It may have come from the Roman Town of Kenchester.
