A Roman Milestone of Gordian (A.D. 238-244) was found in 1915 during
building operations at Scalesceugh, 5 m. S.E. of Carlisle, where
the Roman road diverges from the main Carlisle-Penrith road. It was
5 ft. below ground level on the surface of the Roman road. Now in
the Tullie House Museum. (2)
