More information : TL 369 094. The former Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Buffer Depot or foodstore at Hoddesdon lay within Home Defence Region 4 and was allocated depot number 19. It was managed on behalf of the government by J W Cook and Co Ltd. Access into the depot was through double gates on the south side of Hertford Road.
The depot building is a standard three aisle structure constructed of brick. Each aisle is covered by a pitched roof with a clerestorey. The roof has been reclad in pressed steel sheeting which is carried down to eaves level on the gable walls. Entry into the depot is through three sliding doors in its northern elevation. There is an office in its northeastern corner. The rainwater pipes and gutters are of asbestos, the downpipes are protected by metal plates, which act as vermin traps. A white line (of unknown function), two bricks thick, is painted on the depot wall about 1m above the ground.
The building is vacant and the entrance gate is blocked by a dump of earth. This report was written from a visual inspection made from the road, no internal inspection was carried out. (1-1a)
