Summary : The remains of two Roman inscribed stones.

RIB 790 and 791 are perhaps more likely to have been brought from
Brougham, 4 miles to the north-west, than across the River Eden from
Kirkby Thore, 3 miles to the north-east.

790. Right-hand part of red sandstone altar, 7 x 52 in. (1/12), found
in 1886 in restoring Cliburn Church, where it now is built into the
south porch. Drawn by R. P. W., 1945.

791. Part of a red sandstone dedication-slab, 17 x 15 in. (1/8),
found, like RIB 790, in 1886 in restoring Cliburn Church, where it
now is built into the south porch. For its provenance see note before
