Summary : Three Roman milestones, one with inscription erased, the other two of Carus (AD 282-3) and Florian (AD 276-82). One of the milestones is located in the County Hall, Northallerton.
More information : 2280. Cylindrical milestone, 32 in. high, 14 in. in diam.
(1/12), found in 1924 beside RIB 2281 in the ditch by the side of
the Roman road on Stainmore, near Spital, 'about one hundred yards west of Vale House' and about 2 1/2 miles west of Bowes (Lauatrae). Now in the County Hall, Northallerton. Drawn by R.G.C., 1926, 1927.

A third milestone, quadrangular, 30 in. high, 13 in. wide, which had had its inscription erased, was found about 1927 within 100 yds. of the site where RIB 2280 and 2281 were found (Ormerod op. cit. 259 with pl.). Now in the County Hall, Northallerton. (1)
