More information : A Roman altar dedicated to Jupiter (No 1316) discovered
1932 during excavations for an eastern extension to the County
Council offices (or County Hall -NZ 250639). In Black Gate Museum
(now Museum of Ants, Newcastle University) (The Roman altar
together with other altars - see NZ 26 SW 24, NZ 26 SE 30,
NZ 26 SE 56 and dedication slab NZ 26 SE 31, found in the proximity
could suggest a temple site at Pons Aelius fort, although not
mentioned by Lewis 'Roman Temples in Britain' 1966). (1)
