Summary : Two Roman coin hoards have been found in the district of Standish. A copper vessel containing more than 200 silver coins was found close to the highway to the north about 1675. Coins ranged from A.D. 90-240 and appeared to be denarii of Domitian. Trajan, Antoninus Pius ... to Laximinine Pupizins and Cordianus Pius, there were also massive gold rings and other objects In 1926 a similar find was made about 200x from the earlier find and practically on the Borough boundary; the coins, about 140 altogether, ranging from Nero - Alexander Septima (A.D. 54-253) having apparently been contained in a leather purse.
