More information : (SW 61852845) Roman milestone (see illustration) now in Breage Church. It was used as a gatepost near the church and was first noticed in 1920.Dated to Postumus, 258-68 AD. (1) In 1922 when some decayed cottages opposite the south porch of the church were demolished for extensions to the churchyard an inscribed granite pillar was discovered. It was acquired for the church by the vicar in 1923. (2) SW 61842846.The milestone, which is 1.7 metres high 0.4 metres wide and 0.2 metres thick, rests against the west corner of the north aisle. The inscription is still visible. A single circular bolt hole near the top of the right side of the stone confirms its use as a gatepost. It is possible the demolished cottage was at SW 61932844 (area of graveyard extension). (3)
