More information : (SD 5332 6431) Roman Milestone found AD 1803 (NAT) (1) An inscribed Roman cylindrical milestone with rectangular base, 9ft 1ins total height, was found in 1803 in the bed of Artle Beck, near Caton, 4 miles east north-east of Lancaster. The inscription reads: Imp (eratori) Caes (ari)/Tr (aiano) Hadriano/Aug(usto)p(ontifici)m (aximo)t(ribuniciae) p(otestatis)/co(n)s(uli)III p(atri) p(atriae)/L(...) m(ilia)p(assuum)IIII.
