More information : (SJ 8397) Roman building stone seen before 1607 by Camden at 'Alparc', on the site of the Roman fort of 'Mamucium' among the ruins of an old square tower; now lost. (SJ 8397) A fragment of a Roman dedication, well cut, was found in clearing earth from the Castle Field Manchester. The discoverers noted 'traces of metallic particules' as if it had once been filled with metal letters. Including in Lord Ellesmere Collection at Worsley Hall; now lost. (1)
