Summary : Chapel and chaplain's house at Sutton Hall. The chapel was endowed in 1524 by the de Sutton family, and served as a Catholic Chapel until 1716. It then became an Anglican Chapel, but was disused after 1760. In the 1950's it was again used as a chapel, was restored, and continues in use. The chapel is a rectangular, single-cell building. The adjacent chaplain's house is a two-storeyed building. The Chapel at Sutton Hall has recently been carefully restored. It is built of stone, with a stone slated roof and wood mullioned windows. A small attached contemporary house of the same materials, probably served as the chaplains quarters. |
