| Summary : World War II lozenge-shaped pillbox, constructed of reinforced concrete 1940-1 as part of the Northern Command River Wansbeck Stop Line; the more northerly of the two pillboxes located to the north of the river and village of Mitford, on the western side of St. Leonard's Lane. Six-sided, with nine gun-slits and a porch over the entrance. One of four pillboxes, all to this design, in and around Mitford, which are scheduled as being 20th century extensions of the defensive function of Mitford Castle [NZ 18 NE 4]. |
