Summary : World War II lozenge-shaped pillbox, constructed of reinforced concrete 1940-1 as part of the Northern Command River Wansbeck Stop Line; the more northerly of the two pillboxes located to the north of the river and village of Mitford, on the western side of St. Leonard's Lane. Six-sided, with nine gun-slits and a porch over the entrance. One of four pillboxes, all to this design, in and around Mitford, which are scheduled as being 20th century extensions of the defensive function of Mitford Castle [NZ 18 NE 4].

Four pillboxes at Mitford, Northumberland, included in the list of Scheduled Monuments. (2)

The pillboxes are located at NZ 16888545; NZ 17248574; NZ 17518622; NZ 17588631 [this record]. (3)

NZ 168 855; NZ 172 858; NZ 175 862; NZ 177 867. Four pillboxes, two to the north and two to the south of the village. (4)

Located at NZ 169 855, designated as P351; NZ 172 858, P350; NZ 176 863, P349; NZ 177 868, P348 [this record]. (5)

NZ 177 868; polygonal; concrete, facing north. (6)

This is the more northerly of the two pillboxes to the north of the river and village, located immediately to the west of St. Leonard's Lane. (7)

Four pillboxes constructed around the village of Mitford, all to the same design in concrete with six sides. Each pillbox has a door protected by a porch and nine gun-slits. (8)
