Hob Uid: 1029531
Location :

Exmoor
Grid Ref : SS7953037780
Summary : An adit with asociated spoil mound believed to have been constructed in the 1850s as part of the Picked Stone Mine complex. It is visible as a gulley, 8.8m long running SSE into the hillside. The spoil mound lies to the north-west and measures 16m by 6.5m by 3.2m high.
More information : Centred at SS 7953 3778, on the eastern side of White Water, is an adit with associated spoil mound. The feature is alleged to have been constructed in the 1850s as part of the Picked Stones Mine complex (source 1a), (see SS 73 NE 27).

The adit is shown, but not described in 1889 and 1903 (source 1b and c). It consists of a gulley, 8.8m long running south-south-eastwards into the hillside. To the north-west is a flat-topped spoil mound, measuring 16m by 6.5m and 3.2m high.

Several shallow scoops are visible further up the slope from the adit, and are presumably prospecting pits. (1, 1a, 1b, 1c)
