Summary : The Chesterfield Canal runs from its junction with the Trent at Stockwith to Chesterfield (46 miles) with a branch about a mile long to Norbriggs. The canal was completed in 1776. It was closed in 1962.
More information : The Chesterfield Canal runs from its junction with the Trent at Stockwith to Chesterfield (46 miles) with a branch about a mile long to Norbriggs. The canal was completed in 1776. In 1908 the Norwood Tunnel (SK 471 820 - SK 479 821) was closed to traffic above it and as far down as Worksop was virtually ended. In 1955 commercial traffic ceased and the canal was abandoned in 1962. (1) Recorded by NRIM, photographed. (2)
