Summary : The remains of a possible prehistoric cairn, most likely dating to the Bronze Age and measuring 5m in diameter and 0.5m high can be seen close to the summit of Hoccombe Hill, Brendon.. It is heavily disturbed by animal scrapes and erosion, and lies within the Exmoor Firing Range.
More information : Centred at SS 7767 4386 are the remains of a possible prehistoric cairn. The feature consists of a sub-circular stony mound, 5m in diameter and 0.5m high. It is heavily disturbed by animal scrapes, erosion and it occupies generally disturbed ground. Traces of a possible ditch survive on the south-eastern side, although this may be the product of other surface disturbance not associated with the mound.
Surveyed at 1:2500 scale. (1)

The cairn described above is visible on aerial photographs, slightly obscured by begetation. It lies within the Exmoor Firing Range and numerous impact craters can be seen in the vicinty, suggesting it may have sustained some damage during military training exercises in World War Two (2).
