Summary : Earthwork remains of a motte about 4 metres in height and situated on a promontory, the highest, narrowest point on the Golden Valley. There are traces of a possible ditch on the north east side. The motte was probably created by cutting this ditch across the natural spur of land and using the excavated material to create a motte on the isolated section. A railway embankment has cut into the north west side which has destroyed any evidence for a possible bailey which would seem most likely on this rasied plateau of land. The small pool to the south is man-made and was created in 1977. Scheduled. |
