An oval mound partly natural, occupying a slight natural knoll; it is some "42 yds across, and rises about 9ft above the ground behind". (2)
A motte, situated upon a low ridge, and above a stream on the SW. Partly natural, the motte has a base diameter of 42.0m NW-SE by 38.0m transversely and is 6.0m high on the E side, but rises 8.5m from the stream. The summit is 9.0m across from NE to SW by 16.0m NW to SE. Published 1:2500 survey revised. (3)
SO 248516. Site inspected by D J Cathcart King who believes the site had the appearance of a glacial feature. (4)

According to its SMR Record (SMR Number: 942), this is a 'mound of oval form and partly natural'. It also notes that the mound is unlikely to be a motte. (6) |
