Tumulus, originally round, about 45 yds diameter and 14 1/2 ft high. It was excavated in 1855, and 2 unaccompanied burnt burials were discovered; they were under a slight mound of fine earth, covered by stones (a). The cutting of this excavation is still visible, and there are faint traces of a ditch on the E side. (see plan). (2-3)

The traces of a ditch on the E side mentioned by the RCHM have been obliterated by the new road and drains laid in 1967. (5)
The mound, 32.0 m diameter and 4.2 m high, has the appearance of a motte although there is now no evidence of a surrounding ditch or bailey. Published survey 25" revised. (6)
Possible remains of bailey to S. of motte within site proposed for new school. (7)
