More information : Sank in 6-7 fathoms, entirely submerged. (2) Struck a rock near Gurnards Head on a Monday evening following a breakdown of her steering gear between 6 and 7pm. Whilst the weather was calm there was a considerable run near the rocks, causing the steamship to be thrown ashore. At 6.15am the following day at the top of the tide, she drifted off and remained afloat for about 15 mins before sinking within 50 yds of the shore. Her crew had landed safely with all their effects the previous day so that she was abandoned when she sank in 13m. Divers from the Western Marine Salvage Co. based at Penzance found the wreck lying on her side with her deck towards the shore so badly damaged that salvage was considered impossible.
