Oxfordshire

Summary : Probable 16th century house, which is thought to be a fragment of the 16th-century manor house which preceded, and survived, the demolished Ascott House. It is of two storeys, T-plan, with a rendered timber framing and constructed of brick and limestone rubble with a tile roof. The brick garden walls to the northeast have stone coping.
More information : Ascott Park Cottage, listed. (1)

Though not investigated as part of the EH survey of Ascott Park in 2007, landscape considerations and external examination led to the conclusion that this house is a remaining part of a 16th-century manor house that was retained due to the accidental burning down of the 17th century Ascott House. For further details see EH Research Dept Report 93-2007. (2)
