More information : (SO 52353635) Dinedor Camp (NR). (1) Oyster Hill or Dinedor Camp, contour camp on top of Dinedor Hill. It is of elongated oval form, approximately 9 1/2 acres internally. The defences consist of a rampart on the NE side, 7 to 14 feet high above the internal level and a scarp and berm towards the NW and W, which side is further protected by a steep natural slope; the same slope forms the only defence on most of the S side, but towards the east end there is a scarp in addition. The entrance is at the extreme E end, and outside it are traces of a mound or bank which may represent the original traverse covering it. In good condition. (2) An area of approximately 48 ft sq was examined in 1951 at the rear of the ramparts in the NE corner, and a trench was cut slightly to the NE of this area, running from the edge of the rampart for a distance of 115ft towards the crest of the hill in the centre of the camp. At the rear of the ramparts there had been heavy occupation, but probably none on the crest of the hill. The finds included considerable Iron Age pottery, with daub, many bones and several fragments of iron, including a portion of an iron axehead. A fair number of Roman sherds were also found. The area was not excavated sufficiently to indicate any hut plans. (3) Coins of Galba and Citellius found here are said to be in the possession of Mr. Bodenham of Rotherwas. (4) A univallate hillfort. The rampart in the N and E rises some 8.0m. above the exterior, whilst on the remaining sides a single scarp slope rises only some 3.0m. The entrance in the E is out-turned, but may represent two phases of construction. (5)
