More information : (SO 506594) A "demolished castle" is marked on Taylor's map just E of Leominster. (1) Comfort Castle is said to have existed in Saxon times. Traditionally it was on a hill side 1/2 mile E of the town, where traces of earthworks could still be seen in Leland's time. The suggested site for the castle is overlooking Hay Lane at the end of a ridge of hills formerly known as Castle of Comfort Hills. There are now no remains. (2) An extensive area of disturbed ground, visible on AP's at SO 5067 5933 may be the site. (3) There is no evidence of any remains in the vicinity of SO 5067 5933, nor is there any local tradition regarding the site of 'Comfort Castle'. (4)
