More information : A large cairn, part of group east of Selworthy Beacon, lies at SS 92315 48012. It was surveyed using differential GPS as part of the RCHME East Exmoor project. The cairn comprises a circular, stony mound, 14m in diameter and 0.4m high, with a pronounced rim. The southern side appears to have been robbed. The cairn is covered with low heather, following a recent burn. Two small depressions in the northern section of the cairn suggest robbing or excavation (1).
The cairn is depicted on the 1st edition 25" map of the area (2).
Cairn, forming part of a prehistoric round cairn cemetery. Scheduling amended. (3)
The Bronze Age burial cairn above (1-3) is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs. The cairn is centred at SS 9231 4801 and is as described above (1). (4-5) |
