More information : (SO 66174083) Mound (NR) Moat (NR.) (1)
Mound, probably castle-mound, at Lower Court, rises c. 6ft above the approach on the NE. On the W side is a dry ditch and on the E a large marshy area, perhaps formerly flooded by a small stream which runs through it. To the SW of the mound is an L-shaped length of wet moat formerly enclosing an outer court. See plan. (2)
The mound on which Lower Court stands appears to be a motte rising some 2.0m, on the east side, the dry ditch surrounding it has been filled in and a tennis court has been built on the north west. The marshy area to the east is now a pond. The remains of the moat are unchanged. Published survey 25" revised. (3)
