Summary : A Second World War military training site is visible as an earthwork and recorded during field investigations. The site was a tank training circuit visible as a triangular track. Each side measures about 150 metres long and is associated with the nearby target railway SS 94 NW 114. The track was carefully constructed up to 1m high and 6m wide and probably built of quarried stone ballast. This is one of three tank circuits built on North Hill for tank training (SS 94 NW 64).
More information : A WWII tank training circuit centred at SS 9304 4775. It is one of three such circuits built on North Hill. They are all triangular in plan, with sides 140 m long, and each comprises a carefully constructed roadway up to 1 m high and 6 m wide, usually built of quarried stone ballast.
Each circuit operated in conjunction with a target railway some 550 m away. (1)

The tank circuit referred to above (1) is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and is as described above. A source suggests that these were possibly built by conscientious objectors during the war. (2-4)
