Summary : Parish Church dating from the 12th century with nave, chancel, north and south aisles, north and south chapels, an outer north chapel, north porch and vestry and a 13th century detached bell tower with spire. Originally a minster. A college for 9 perpetual chaplains was founded in the church in 1400-1, and this had ceased to exist by 1535.There is evidence to suggest that an early medieval minster occupied the site in the early 11th century. |
