Summary : Gardens and pleasure grounds to Ham House covering an area of 12 hectares. Formal gardens are shown in a painting of 1609 and were expanded during the 1670s and refurbished after 1727. The gardens were restored to their 17th century form in 1975-6 and during the late 1990s.
More information : Estate and gardens to Ham House, a country house constructed in 1610. Garden history prior to the 1670s is uncertain. In 1670s formal gardens to the south of the house were documented. The tree avenues are also thought to date to this period. Following neglect during the 18th and 19th century the gardens were restored to their 17th century form in 1975-6. (1)
