Devils Spittleful

Hob Uid: 116493
Location :
Worcestershire
Wyre Forest
Bewdley
Grid Ref : SO8072074680
Summary : A sandstone outcrop circa 40 feet high which has in the past been regarded as "sepulchral", ie a barrow mound, although this seems rather unlikely. A small cavern exists at the south-west end, and this has apparently been inhabited. The rock is perhaps better known for the various legends whichseek to explain its name.
More information : (SO 80727468) Devil's Spittleful (NAT) (1)

The Devil's Spadeful mound. A mound on sandy ground which has not
been opened. Reputed to be sepulchral. (It is not possible to
substantiate the published name "Devil's Spittleful"). (2-3)

The Devil's Spadeful is a pinnacle of sandstone rock about 35 to 40
feet high rising from a sandy hillock. It has a small cavern at the
south-west end, which has been inhabited. (4)
